Jubilee Weekend

So the UK has a four-day weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. If you’re unaware of what that is, it’s the celebration of Elizabeth II and her 60th year on the throne. It’s been packed full of picnics, boats down the Thames, big concerts, corgi balloons (I shit you not) and just general happiness everywhere you turn. I haven’t really been one to get involved in these activities. We had a work picnic on Friday, which was loads of fun, but that’s it.

Saturday I spent the day in Brighton. Well…the afternoon. My plan was to get up and take the 8am train, but of course I woke up around 12. I ended up getting to Brighton about 3:30. Still though I was able to have a nice time. As soon as the train pulled out of proper London, the sun came out. It was really fantastic being able to see the ocean again. This seems a bit weird for someone who has a general dislike of the beach…but there’s a comfort to it. The weather was quite nice but my hat was nearly a casualty of the wind on numerous occasions. Anyway – I saw the beach, Brighton Pier, North Laine and did some wandering around otherwise. I ended up in a random pub watching the England VS Belgium match. I had a Corona. I don’t really even like Corona much, but ever since I cruised to Bermuda 6 years ago they make me think of vacation. So that was comforting. And for the record it was raining when I got back in to London. Go figure…

Sunday was a lazy day. Slept in quite late again which was FANTASTIC. Unfortunately I could really get used to it, haha. I watched a bit of the French Open and then was off to rehearsal. We blocked everything from my entrance to the end of the show over the course of about 2 1/2 hours. Not bad. Now I have until the 10th to be off-book.That’s only 3 more rehearsals. A bit nuts if you ask me but it makes sense. This way we can focus more on the blocking and really delving into making the true moments happen. We’ll see what comes of it. I then stayed up to watch a 0-0 draw between the USMNT and Canada. After that watched the Celtics beat the Heat in OT to tie the series 2-2. I’ll spare you my thoughts on the game for now.

Today (Monday) was nice and relaxing. Since I had been up to 5am watching basketball I slept until about noon. I went to see Men in Black 3 at the cinema and really quite enjoyed it. Something about seeing a film by yourself that’s nice and peaceful. Following that I grabbed a burger which was not so good, went home and had some wine. After a bit of nothing I went up to High Barnet, which is the most northern point on my tube line, to hang out with Inge at her place for a bit. Inge and I work together. We listened to some music and just really relaxed. It was awesome. She turned me on to the band Alabama Shakes. I’ve not stopped listening to them since I got home. Tomorrow I have a bunch of laundry to do and have to get to the grocery store at some point as well. I also feel like I’l have to take a nap at some point…since there’s no way I’m going to miss the Celtics/Heat Game 5. It starts at 1:30am my time. I figure if I can go to sleep at 8 until 1, then go to sleep for another 3 hours after the game I shouldn’t been too messed up for work on Wednesday. Who knows though? We’ll see.

Now I leave you to make a playlist of Alabama Shakes, Tennis, Florence and the Machine and any other like-minded artists I deem fit.
